Cosmetic Treatments
  • One of the most popular cosmetic treatments that probably has the highest demand has been teeth whitening. A whiter smile is usually considered attractive and sometimes called the “Holywood smile”!

Teeth whitening can be done using two popular methods:

    Bleaching.
    Enamel Replacement (veneering).

There are factors that affect the choice of method and also the pricing expectations by the patient.

    Bleaching
Bleaching is done to remove a thin outer layer of the enamel that is yellowish.

Oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is used to “oxidise” the surface of tooth to lighten the shade of the tooth.

While this is the easiest way to whiten one's teeth, this procedure is known to cause some sensitivity in some patients. Currently there are some sealing agents that can be used to minimize sensitivity.

Bleaching takes approximately 1 - 2 hours for one full session.

The general cost of bleaching is RM700 (approx USD200) per session using the Pola System. Meanwhile a more advance system called Beyond Whitening costs approximately RM1,000 (approx USD290).

    Enamel Replacement
This is a more effective way of whitening teeth.

This is a procedure where the enamel layer is interlaced with a more rigid material that would improve enamel thickness and avoid the dentin layer from being visible. This eliminates the yellowish look of tooth and provides a whiter outlook.

There are two main types of material that can be used for this procedure i.e. composite material and porcelain material. Composite is a cost effective option while porcelain is a more durable choice.

The general cost of enamel replacement is RM150 (approx USD40) per tooth for composite material and RM400 (approx USD105) per tooth for porcelain material.
